The haunting score is there, but the haunting staging isn't. There is a certain art of invoking fear that the debut writer-director hasn't absorbed. The horror soon recedes, and the tingling adrenaline settles into a lull-like boredom. But the length of the film, at over two hours, makes the silly stretches unbearable, and the repetition, grating.
